"I am still waiting to hear back from a Japanese promotion," Herrig said. "I may be Megumi Fujii’s retirement fight in October and if that doesn’t happen I will be on the November card in Invicta."
On June 22, 2013, Fujii announced that she will retire from MMA after competing for the final time at Vale Tudo Japan on October 5.
"My announces retirement plans, will compete once more at Vale Tudo Japan 3rd in October :) Thanks!" Fujii tweeted in June.
Fujii hasn't announced her opponent yet, but it appears Herrig is in the mix for a spot on the card.
Fujii is ranked No. 3 in the world, while Herrig is followed close behind at No. 7.
If Herrig doesn't get that fight, it appears she'll be featured on the Invicta FC 7 card slated for November in Kansas City, Missouri.
"We haven’t made any announcements yet," Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp said of Invicta FC 7. "We had a dates in Nov, but those dates were taken by larger promotions. I am working on an alternate date, but haven’t been able to confirm all logistics yet for that date. We should make an announcement soon."
Either way, fight fans will surely be excited to see Herrig back in action.
"Now that WMMA is being recognized I don’t think people care whether a woman is beautiful or not," Herrig said. "People are now recognizing all the different characters in WMMA and just want to watch good fights and Invicta puts on great fights!"
