Northern California jazz fans with a particular taste for vibes will not wan to miss the Bach Dancing and Dynamite Society’s March 23 date.
The ever-entertaining master flute and vibraphone player, Roger Glenn, leads a "battle of the vibes" with four Bay Area vibists performing numbers from some of the great icons who have made the instrument famous: Rex Allen (music of Lionel Hampton); Charlie Barreda (Cal Tjader); Michael Hatfield (performing Gary Burton); Smith Dobson (playing Milt Jackson), and Roger Glenn (Tito Puente.) Backing the vibraphone will be pianist David Mathews (Santana's band), bassist Rob Fisher (Cal Tjader) and drummer Leon Joyce Jr (Ramsey Lewis).
This first annual showcase of the vibraphone in jazz and Latin music will include some history and what the instrument has offered to these music genres. Audiences can be assured of an afternoon of infectious entertainment with multiple vibraphones onstage.
