If found guilty, the school could face possible fines of $10,000-$30,000 per infraction.

“We believe that staff of the University of Houston is clearly incompetent and has caused an unnecessary animal death and is deserving of a severe penalty,” said SAEN executive director Michael A. Budkie, A.H.T.

According to the report issued November 18th, According to a copy of the Nov. 18, the rabbit died because “The person responsible for monitoring the anesthesia lacked the qualifications and experience to act without supervision, and failed to notice that it was in respiratory or cardiac distress in a timely manner.”

Founded in 1996, the Ohio-based Stop Animal Exploitation Now group has uncovered major abuse cases in numerous labs throughout the county including those at Michigan State University, University of Southern California, University of Washington, Stolle Research and Development, University of South Florida, Yerkes Regional Primate Research Center (associated with Emory University), University of Florida, University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Toledo, most of which have involved experiments using moneys and apes.
