Federal regulators have expanded their investigation into the failure of the stop, rear signals and turn lights involving approximately 253,000 Mercedes C-Class luxury vehicles manufactured between 2008-2011 due to melted electrical connectors.
The probe, which has been upgraded to involve analysis of the vehicles’ overall engineering comes just short of issuing an actual recall and was initiated after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it received 402 driver complaints that included 5 fires and one injury. In addition, Mercedes stated that they have received over 23,000 warranty claims connected to the problem. The company, which is also concerned how a future recall may affect new car sales, is cooperating fully with authorities.
