Government work stopped for hundreds of thousands of federal workers today after Congress members, yesterday, dismissed their duty to pass a continuing appropriations bill. The labor cost cuts will not take the work away from air traffic controllers and border patrol agents in San Diego.
The federal worekrs are among the members of the federal workforce kept at work to keep the country, and its cities, prepared tophandle the regular work situations citizens put their trust in. Citizens at home can count on the U.S. postman, or U.S> postwoman, arriving to deliver the mail.

Active military servicemembers will stay on active service. Worker furloughs will not deactivate country defense.
Veterans, in the event of an extended shutdown, will see their benefits payments stop. Veterans compensation, pensions, and education payments will be cut off.

Healthcare exchanges open today OCtober 1st. Covered California is among the exchanges open. Press conferences were held today in Sacramento, Fresno, and Los Angeles. Limited staff will work for the Department of Health and Human Services, and staff Medicare and Medicaid services. Payments and enrollments for the federal programs will be coordinated with the states.
California has funding for Medicaid starting on the 1st. The federal funds were appropriated in the fiscal year outlay.
