Nicholas Benjamin Ray, an employee with the Department of Homeland Security, agricultural division has been arrested and charged with battery,felony false imprisonment and felony sexual battery for an incident that occurred at Peeks Park in Cedartown.
The charges stem from an incident which occurred just before 6:00 P.M. on May 9, 2011 when police were dispatched to an address on North College drive in reference to a child molestation that had occurred approximately 30 minutes earlier at Peeks park.
The complaint states that a male suspect displayed a law enforcement badge to a juvenile and requested that the juvenile go into the restroom. Once inside the restroom, the suspect attempted to remove the juveniles clothing. The juvenile fled the scene and reported the incident.
An observant witness at the park thought that the actions of this suspect were suspicious and recorded the suspects tag number and vehicle description as he was leaving.
The investigation has been ongoing. A warrant was issued for the suspect and the search ended Tuesday with the arrest of Nicholas Benjamin Ray, age 31, of 285 Couch Road in Senoia, Ga.
Ray was arrested by authorities at Hartsfield International Airport in Atlanta. No bond has been set at this time. The case will now go to Superior Court for a bond hearing.
The witness at Peeks Park who recorded the suspects tag number and vehicle description played a major role in the arrest of this child predator.
