Federal budget cuts may affect state workers

The "sequester" may have a major effect on Florida federal workers. There are 90,000 federal employees in Florida. Of those, 31,000 are civilian defense employees. The rest work in areas ranging from airport security screeners to office clerks. All of these individuals face furloughs beginning in April or May. For many people this will mean a 10 to 20 percent reduction in their paychecks, according to an article by William Gibson in the March 1 Sun Sentinel.

"I think this is unfortunate. A lot of hardworking people will be hurt by these cuts," said Brittany Anderson, a resident of Miami.
