The guilds have been cycled through in the ten Friday Night Magic promos since they all re-debuted in Return to Ravnica block, and now it's back to normalcy for FNM cards. With that in mind, according to Trick Jarrett's Arcana article on the mothership today, February 2014 will bring a shiny new printing of a staple green one-drop. Yes, February's FNMs will bring a chance to get your hands on Elvish Mystic.
The new version of Magic 2014's replacement for Llanowar Elves keeps the Nissa-attributed flavor text - possibly foreshadowing the xenophobic elvish planeswalker's return in a future set - and comes with some really gorgeous new Winona Nelson art. The original art was a sort of generic-fantasy face-painted and pelt-wearing Elf Druid, but this art has the Mystic in a really cool costume, with beads and fringes, that seems to draw influence from the ceremonial garb of Lakota Native Americans. Reactions to the new art have largely been positive, and this seems to be a well-regarded promo choice despite being a common card.
Thinking of playing in a February FNM to snag one of these? Let me know in the comments.
