Good Mews Animal Foundation, a non-profit, no-kill cat shelter in Marietta, is holding a special “two-fur-one” adoption special throughout the month of February.
In celebration of Valentine’s Day, bonded/mandatory pairs of adoptable cats will be available for a special “love bird” rate of $114 for the pair. Adopters may also pick any two cats for the special adoption fee of $125.00 for the pair. Each adopted pair will come with their own fabulous goody bag.
The Good Mews February 1, 2013 Press Release on the adoption special describes the special bonding between some cats:
“Cats bond with each other in the same way as humans, so separating a bonded pair can cause depression and often lead to health and behavioral problems. Having a friend in a new place can help cats happily transition to their forever home, but there are other benefits for adopters, too. Cats are much less likely to engage in destructive or other disruptive behaviors when they have another cat to socialize with; they provide each other with built-in exercise and playtime.”

Good Mews cares for approximately 100 cats at their shelter in Marietta and has placed over 6,800 cats in their forever homes during their 25 years of operation. Cat adoption hours are every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the second, third and fourth Sunday each month from 1 to 4 p.m.
About Good Mews Animal Foundation (from the Feb. 1, 2013 Press Release)
“Good Mews was modeled after Tree House, a no-kill, cage-free shelter in Chicago. Its founder, Gloria Skeen, started Good Mews in her Atlanta townhouse in 1988 to provide an alternative to shelters that euthanized unwanted cats. Good Mews, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, was the first no-kill, free-roam, feline-only shelter established in Georgia, housing approximately 100 cats at any given time, with an additional 30+ cats living in foster homes. Located in Marietta, Georgia, Good Mews offers an alternative to traditional animal shelters in the metro Atlanta area by providing a no-kill, cage-free haven for homeless, abused or abandoned cats until placing them in permanent, loving homes.
Good Mews promotes public awareness regarding the value of pets, animal welfare, pet overpopulation and quality human-animal companionship through education and outreach. Now celebrating its 25th anniversary, Good Mews has placed more than 6,700 cats in permanent homes since 1988. The shelter receives no government support, relying instead on donations of time, service, supplies and money from our supporters, the public and area businesses.
Good Mews is located at 736 Johnson Ferry Road, Suite A3, Marietta, GA 30068. For more information and hours, visit www.goodmews.org or call 770-499-CATS (2287).”
