February, let the racing begin! (Photos)

As the snow fell, and the winds blew in northeast Ohio today the competitors gathered. Today, Pack 42 came from all over for the 2013 Pinewood Derby Race at Little Flower Church in North Canton.

The racers lined up in preparation for the double elimination heats that begin shortly after the weigh ins. The excitement builds as they get ready making their final touches to see who is going to be the fastest. Before the competition can begin however, another competition begins, voting for the Specialty Awards. This years categories where the Craziest car, the Best to Cruise in, and Best Overall design.

With the selections made, and votes were being tallied, the racing begins.

Heat after heat, they flew down the track, many advanced, some did not, but all were winners!

The closest race was bother against brother, one a Tiger, the other a Wolf; and the reigning Overall Champion, and Tiger Den winner. The excitement was overwhelming, charging the air as they lined up, then the gate was released and off they went, flying past the crowd to the finish. The younger competitor was the victor!

Quickly, he finished off the remaining racers as they succumbed to the fasted car on the track.

The winner celebrated with pizza and cake, as the others congratulated him on a job well done, and enjoyed their meal as well.

In the end he took the Tiger den First Place, the Craziest car award, and the Overall Championship!

The Overall winners were: Finn, Tiger Den; 1st place, his bother Stone, Wolf Den, 2nd place; and Drake, Webelos 2 den, 3rd place.

Finn won the Craziest car specialty award, Bradley won the Best Car to Cruise in award, and Best Overall design went to Ryan.

All in all, it was a great day for racing, and once again good sportsmanship won as the scouts did their best.
