February is Pet Dental Health Month

February is National Pet Dental Health Month. For pets here in the Utica/Rome area of upstate NY that means families need to make a resolution to brush their dog's and cat's teeth faithfully. Dental care is important for your pet's overall health - not just his mouth.

By just three years of age, many dogs and cats already have some degree of oral disease. Brushing the teeth is considered the "gold standard" of care. The right tools are important. You can purchase special pet toothbrushes locally at your veterinarian's office, Pet Supplies Plus on Commercial Drive in New Hartford or PetSMART also on Commercial Drive in New Hartford.

Pet Supplies Plus has all Petrodex products at 30% off through February 22. That sale includes the favored poultry flavored toothpaste as well as pet mouth rinses and toothbrushes. Most pets prefer the poultry flavor over the mint or malt versions. Do not use human toothpaste as that is meant to be spit out and most pets don't spit on command!

PetSMART has 25% off all Nutri Vet and Nylabone Dental products. These sales give you a great opportunity to stock up on any dental necessities for your pets.

If you have children at home, they might enjoy these activity pages while learning about pet dental care.
