February is Black History Month

February is an exciting month for so many reasons. It is the month we celebrate the President's birthdays, that is President Lincoln who is pivotal in the celebration of black history month in his passing The Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 and the 14th Amendment which abolished slavery in the U.S. President Washington is celebrated as well; the First President of a country whose citizens fought for freedom. It is also the month we celebrate love - on February 14th. But February is really important to millions of African-Americans who reside in this country because it is the month we celebrate "our history", a history that God led us through to overcome amidst trial, struggle, persecution and triumph.

During this month, all over the country, there are local events celebrating milestones in Black history: our entry into the country as slaves, our contributions in the Revolutionary War, as slaves building the country we all love, the Civil War and our fight to become free people and equal in a country that still resists our rights toward equality; our heroes who amidst trial, stood tall by the grace of God to represent how great God is, how just God is and how compassionate God is to redeem a people who were brought so low.

Today is the first day of a great history of how black peoples have overcomed and will continue to...by the grace of God.

Celebrate Black History month!
