February Family Programs at the Maryland Science Center

Frigid temperatures still grasp Baltimore as snows promise to blanket many southern states – locations not know for snowy conditions. It is recommended staying indoors as temperatures dip into single digits, although this causes cabin fever. On those days that offer a reprieve from the cold, check out the indoor activities for Baltimore families in the Kid’s Room at the Maryland Science Center.

Storybook Caravan
On Wednesday, January 29 starting at 2 p.m., and continuing Wednesday, February 12 and 26 at 2 p.m., the Maryland Science Center is offering Storybook Caravan in the Kid’s Room. This program is suitable for families and children. The cost is free with paid regular admission.

Enjoy a story based on an exhibit location in the museum; read by the Kid’s Room staff. Afterwards, discover the science behind the story with interactive investigations.

Gadget and Gizmo’s Puppet Science Show
On Thursday, January 30 starting at 11 a.m., and continuing Thursday, February 13 and 27 at 11 a.m., the Maryland Science Center is offering Gadget and Gizmo’s Puppet Science Show in the Learning Lab. This program is suitable for children 5 and under with an adult. The cost is free with paid regular admission.

Learn science concepts through an interactive puppet show, featuring the characters Gadget and Gizmo. There will be dancing, music, “movement activities”, and more. Afterwards, children will create a special project based on the show’s science themes.

Animal Antics
On Tuesday, February 4 and 18 starting at 11 a.m., the Maryland Science Center is offering Animal Antics in the Learning Lab. This program is suitable for families and children. The cost is free with paid regular admission.

Enjoy time with an animal resident at the Maryland Science Center, and learn about its habits, habitat, and adaptations to their environment.

Itsy Bitsy Infants
On Tuesday, February 6 and 20 starting at 10:30 a.m., the Maryland Science Center is offering Itsy Bitsy Infants in the Room to Grow. This program is suitable children 0 to 24 months. The cost is free with paid regular admission.

This program introduces infants (with caregiver assistance) to the world of science through finger plays, music, rhymes, and other activities.

What You Need to Know
The Maryland Science Center is located at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor on 601 Light Street. There are parking lots, paid spaces and metered parking available on Light Street and Key Highway (click here for directions and additional parking details).

Current hours through April 6 are 10 a.m.to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 a.m.to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, and is closed on Mondays.

The museum is also closed on Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. It is open all other holidays.
