Who says you can’t have your chocolate cake and eat it too? Many people believe that chocolate is simply ‘off limits’ if they want to shed that unwanted weight but do not be afraid! You can still have this delicious rich treat and in fact, it has some health benefits too! Talk about a slam dunk!

Dark chocolate is richer and has a distinctive bittersweet taste than other chocolates. According to Daniel DeNoon of WebMD, when eaten regularly in small amounts it is said to help lower blood pressure and lower the risk of heart disease due to the inflammation fighting properties inside the cocoa. Dr. Fitzgerald stated that cocoa in dark chocolate helps blood flow and circulation and the flavonoids in dark chocolate also help protect from UV damage in the skin. It's doesn't get any better than that. So what is the downside? Well just like anything else too much can be harmful. So before you stuff your face let’s take a look at how much you should enjoy. Remember moderation is key!

  • In every 1.5 oz. of dark chocolate there is 3 grams of fiber.
  • A 1.5 oz. serving of dark chocolate has between 11 grams to 20 grams of fat.
  • A 1.5 oz. serving of dark chocolate is about 200 calories.
