February beer fests

Upcoming beer events for February in Ohio include tomorrow's (Feb 2) Ale Fest in Columbus (www.alefest.com). Then comes the annual Ogrefest at the BREW Kettle in Strongsville. This celebration is all about high gravity beers. Owner Chris McKim promises over 50 "ogre worthy" beers will be on tap during the week beginning February 11. If you are familiar with the event, you will know that the beers rotate and are not all on tap at once.

Cincinnati folks know that February 7-14 is Cincinnati Beer Week. There are numerous local events and participating venues. Check www.cincinnatibeerweek.com for details.

The next one is the annual Barrel Aged Beer Festival on February 16 at the Winking Lizard Party Center in Bedford Heights. This always popular event may sell out, so get your tickets in advance. There will be two sessions - 1-4 pm and 5-8 pm. A sampling glass and sandwich buffet is included. For details: www.winkinglizard.com.

The 7th Annual Winter Warmer Fest is returning to Cleveland's Flats on February 23rd at Windows on the River in the powerhouse. This is the craft beer showcase and fundraiser for the Ohio Craft Brewers Association and features most of the Northern Ohio breweries. Okay... so this one isn't February, but you might want to plan ahead. March 1 is the 7th Annual Glass City Beer Fest at the Lucas County Recreation Center in Maumee, Ohio. For more information click :www.glasscitybeerfest.com
