From Roland Emmerich, the director of 10,000 BC and 2012, comes the political thriller Anonymous. Set in Elizabethan England, the film poses a possible answer to a question that has been baffling scholars for centuries. Although William Shakespeare is widely regarded as the greatest English writer and dramatist, there have been many theories that question the true authorship of his works.
In Anonymous, Edward De Vere is presented as the true author of Shakespeare’s plays. In a series of flashbacks, De Vere’s life unfolds from childhood through his illicit romantic entanglements with the Queen, his plays on the London stage fomenting revolution to thwart greedy nobles and finally his condemnation to anonymity to save his son’s life.
The DVD and Blu-ray releases include commentary with director Roland Emmerich and writer John Orloff, and “Who Is The Real William Shakespeare?” featurette. Exclusive to the Blu-ray release are two exclusive bonus featurettes, “More Than Special Effects” and “Speak The Speech...,” and an Anonymous PS3 wallpaper/theme. Both will be available for purchase at all major New York City retailers including Best Buy, Target and Walmart (in Long Island).
