Monday, February 25th, 2013, is Ontario's very first National Cupcake Day in support of the province's SPCAs and humane societies. A sweet, delectable way to raise funds for the many homeless and sheltered animals in need of love and support, National Cupcake Day is the first of its kind in Canada, though the event has been held to great success in places like Australia and New Zealand.
National Cupcake Day encourages participants to hold cupcake parties and bake these treats for their friends and families, with party guests making donations to the cause. The movement's website allows those interested in raising money to register online, and offers a wealth of helpful information, such as tips on planning your party, and how to submit the funds raised. The website also keeps track of the money raised for the cause, which is currently sitting at over $110,000.00.
Hosting a Cupcake Day party is a great way to have fun and celebrate indoors, and forget about the cold of February. Ontario SPCAs and humane societies need all the help they can get to support, rescue and rehome the animals we're all responsible for.
