Today begins the forty days of Lent and for many that means giving up certain dietary pleasures, often meat. That need not be a hardship or deprivation. With so many people embracing Vegan and Vegetarian lifestyles these days, chefs and gourmet cooks have put a lot of time and energy into the creation of numerous delectable vegan and vegetarian menus.
Gone are the old days of gray and at best, uninteresting brown rice or lentil mucks and I haven’t seen a gelatinous pile of steamed eggplant in decades. Today restaurants and gourmet shopping venues offer a plethora of truly tasty and interesting menus and products.

Sonoma county, in fact Northern California in general is well blessed with vegetarian and vegan venues designed to suit a large range of tasts.
Some of the restaurants are so fine that they are even frequented by meat eaters just looking for good food.
If you are looking for good locally grown produce you couldn’t do better than to search out a farmers market in your area.
