We see all the advertisements and hear the comments about how a guy should make a woman feel special on Valentine's Day. He should buy the necklace, send those flowers, maybe even propose on this special day. Every one of these ideas about how to make a gal feel good is great! I second that motion! But what about the guys? Don't they get to feel special, too? Cincinnati has a lot of opportunities to grab up one of the goodies right at a nearby Hallmark location or perhaps a nearby florist.
Men need to feel appreciated, want to be adored, and will bend over backwards for your affections; so why don't we treat them special on this day, too?
I remember in grade school giving Valentine cards to all of the students in the class; not just the girls. We were taught that everyone was a potential Valentine, and this was the chance to make that known through sharing with the entire class. Sure, everyone got one, but you knew deep in your heart which one was the real Valentine. You might have even written something a little extra special on his card.
Then, as the class got a little older, you gave those cards to the ones you wanted; some would get a few, while others would get many. This was the moment when we realized popularity. Still, as we got older and older, the momentum of the Valentine's landed mainly at a girl's feet; leaving most guys behind as the only giver of such momentum.
Today, I think we should change it back to yesteryear; when both genders received kudos on that day. We should take the time to appreciate the men in our lives for all that they do for us. You could make a dinner, buy a card, or offer a massage; just make it special. Let your man know what you are doing; so he understands that he, too, is being shown appreciation on this special day.
Don't get anything for Valentine's Day? That's fine. For the gal who doesn't care about the kudos; that's fine, too. You can still show him your appreciation by doing something nice for him...without expecting anything in return. Giving with the intent of a receipt means you are doing the deed with the wrong intention. Maybe your guy will come through the next year...or the next week! Maybe he won't. Either way, something good will come out of your kindness. Most likely, you will see a little more humor and spirit; perhaps even get your relationship back on track.
What I do know is that good brings good, and as long as you are doing something good, you can expect something good in return; in that situation or elsewhere. Go do a good thing.
Happy Valentine's Day!
