Feb. 7, 2012 DVD: Poolboy: Drowning Out the Fury with Kevin Sorbo & Danny Trejo

From director Garrett Brawith and writer/producer Ross Patterson comes one of the year’s most racist and funniest direct-to-video films Poolboy: Drowning Out the Fury. It stars Kevin Sorbo (Hercules, Andromeda), Danny Trejo (Machete, Grindhouse) and Ross Patterson (upcoming Darnell Dawkins: Mouth Guitar Legend, FDR: American Badass!), along with cameos by Jason Mewes, Mark Curry, Alanna Ubach, Ahmed Best, Jennifer Elise Cox and Akira Lane.

In a mockumentary style with director, producer and writer Saint James St. James, Poolboy: Drowning Out the Fury was a lost movie he created when he was just ten years old. Back in 1990, the studios had refused to release it because of the offensive content.

Sorbo stars as poolboy and Vietnam veteran Sal Brando who returns home to Van Nuys, California after a rough stint in Vietnam, where he lost his best friend Fontaine. Fourteen years have passed and the place is now overrun by Mexicans. They have taken over the pool cleaning business and even his wife has shacked up with a Mexican pool cleaner named Eduardo.

Full of anger, Brando does what he knows best. He makes it his mission to reclaim pool jobs and the neighborhood from the Mexicans. He begins by stealing Eduardo’s van in an act of revenge, but Eduardo murders Brando’s wife and son as payback.

With no job, no family, no friends and basically nothing left to lose, Brando murders Eduardo and his buddies and sets out on a violent spree to wipe the town clean of Mexicans once and for all. When Mexican crime boss Caesar finds out Brando killed his ninth brother Eduardo and his compadres, it becomes an all-out war, Brando vs. Mexicans.

There are bad movies and then there is Poolboy: Drowning Out the Fury. If you are expecting something with substance, you can stop reading. But if you want a side-splitting, silly, raunchy and completely politically incorrect film to watch, then look no further. You can tell that the actors had a lot of fun with the film, from cheesy special effects to the over-the-top idiotic parodies of other films. It does not hurt that there are boobs, body parts and plenty of blood to go around as well. Though the film may not get any Academy Awards, it is still a grossly entertaining satirical mockumentary that will win you over with some good stupid laughs.
