When Aether, one of the Infinity Stones, is found by Jane Foster and she becomes infected with it, Thor returns to Earth and brings her back to Asgard with him. Meanwhile, Dark Elf Malekith, the ruler of an ancient race that predates the universe, awakens and seeks the Aether to use in his revenge against Asgard. As Malekith’s return plunges the universe back into darkness, Thor battles to try to save Earth and the Nine Realms and restore order across the cosmos. Teaming up with his adoptive brother and nemesis Loki, Thor embarks on his most perilous and personal journey yet, facing an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand. To save us all, Thor will be forced to sacrifice everything.
