Feb 24 2013, What to watch: 85th Academy Awards, 'Shameless', more

For Sunday, February 24th 2013 LA TV Insider Examiner recommends:

The Amazing Race (CBS, 8 p.m.) – The race continues in Bora Bora.

85th Academy Awards (ABC, 8:30 p.m.) – Seth MacFarlane hosts the annual ceremony, held live from the Hollywood & Highland Center in Los Angeles. Nominees for Best Picture include Lincoln, Amour, Argo, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Silver Linings Playbook, Zero Dark Thirty, Les Mis, and Life of Pi. Expect performances by Adele, Norah Jones, and Barbra Streisand.

Girls (HBO, 9 p.m.) – “Video Games” – Hannah (Lena Dunham) and Jessa (Jemima Kirke) go to visit Jessa’s estranged father, alternative girlfriend, and her teenage son upstate.

Shameless (SHO, 9 p.m.) – “Cascading Failures” – The Department of Family Services hauls the Gallagher children away, leaving Fiona (Emmy Rossum) desperate to get them back. Lip (Jeremy Allen White) and Ian (Cameron Monaghan) tough it out in a group home that’s more like a prison. Debbie (Emma Kenney) is placed with a God-fearing woman who believes in “tough love." Carl (Ethan Cutkosky) and Liam live the posh life with a gay couple, but Carl doesn’t have any time to enjoy it as he fears they will try to adopt Liam. With Monica nowhere to be found, Fiona is forced to find Frank (William H. Macy) and get him ready to make a ‘Father of the Year’ appearance in court in order to win the kids back. All goes according to plan, until Fiona discovers that Frank’s not only the solution to her problems with the DFS, but the cause of them.

House of Lies (SHO, 10 p.m.) – “Family Values” – Marty’s (Don Cheadle) plan to spend time with his son conflicts with an exclusive business retreat. His interest is piqued when he learns an intriguing new revelation about Tamara (Nia Long). Meanwhile, Doug (Josh Lawson) sees his fellow Pod members differently after they meet his girlfriend.
