From English filmmaker Joe Wright, the director of Pride & Prejudice and Atonement, comes the epic romance film Anna Karenina which has received four Oscar nominations including best cinematography, best costume design and best original score. Adapted by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Tom Stoppard from Leo Tolstoy's 1877 novel of the same name, it stars Academy Award nominees Keira Knightley and Jude Law, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Kelly Macdonald, Matthew Macfadyen, Domhnall Gleeson, Ruth Wilson, Alicia Vikander, Olivia Williams, Michelle Dockery and Emily Watson.
In this epic love story set in Imperial Russia 1874, married aristocrat and socialite Anna Karenina is the beautiful wife of one of Russia’s most esteemed men Alexei Karenin, who is twenty years her senior. On a request from Anna’s brother Prince Stepan "Stiva" Oblonsky, she travels from St. Petersburg to Moscow to help save his brother’s marriage broken up by his unbridled womanizing. Upon her arrival, she meets the young dashing cavalry officer Count Vronsky. An instant mutual attraction develops between the two that ultimately leads to a tragic affair filled with passion, jealousy and broken hearts.
