From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Sam Mendes comes the new James Bond film Skyfall. It is the twenty-third installment of the longest-running film franchise in history which just celebrated its 50th anniversary and is based on the world’s most successful 007 secret agent created by Ian Fleming. Daniel Craig reprises his role from Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace as James Bond. Judi Dench returns as M -- in her final Bond film appearance -- and Javier Bardem portrays the new nemesis, former MI6 operative Raoul Silva. Also joining the cast are Ben Whishaw as Q, Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny, Ralph Fiennes as Gareth Mallory, Bérénice Marlohe as Sévérine and Albert Finney as Kincade. Skyfall has been nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Cinematography, Best Original Score written by Thomas Newman and Best Original Song, “Skyfall” by Adele and Paul Epworth -- which already won a Golden Globe. Additionally, Skyfall has won a SAG Award for Best Stunt Ensemble.
When M’s past returns to haunt her and threatens to take down the entire MI6, Bond is called into action to destroy the threat no matter how personal the cost. In Istanbul, he and Eve Moneypenny engage in a harrowing chase to stop a mercenary who has stolen a hard drive that would expose undercover agents around the world. However, the mission fails and Bond is subsequently shot and presumed dead. In the aftermath, M’s authority and position is called under question by Gareth Mallory, the new Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee, and M is being forced to retire when the MI6 offices are attacked.
Hearing of the explosion, Bond surfaces and returns to London. After undergoing a series of physical and psychological examinations, Bond is sent back to the field with Q, the MI6 quartermaster, providing support. Taking to the shadows, the trail leads Bond to the former MI6 operative Raoul Silva, who is seeking to humiliate, discredit and kill M as revenge against her for betraying him. As the story of Silva’s past unfolds, Bond’s loyalty to M is put to the test when he becomes the only trusted ally she has left.
The DVD includes the “Shooting Bond” featurette. The Blu-ray includes over a dozen all-new revealing featurettes about the Bond women, car, villains and more. Also, there are audio commentaries by director Sam Mendes and producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson and production designer Dennis Gassner, plus Skyfall premiere and soundtrack promotional spot.
