Acclaimed novelist Stephen Chbosky makes his screenwriting and directorial debut with the coming-of-age film The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Based on Chbosky’s wildly popular novel of the same name, it stars Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller, Mae Whitman, Nina Dobrev, Dylan McDermott, Kate Walsh, Joan Cusack and Paul Rudd.
When Charlie Kelmeckis begins his first year of high school, he has a hard time making new friends after his best friend committed suicide while they were in middle school. He feels no one understands him, especially his parents and siblings; he was close with his Aunt Helen but she died in a car accident when he was seven years old. On his first day, he only makes a connection with his English teacher Mr. Anderson.
Charlie watches from the sidelines until a pair of charismatic seniors, Sam and her step-brother Patrick, decide to take him under their wing. Introduced to a whole new world of parties, midnight screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and the quest for the perfect song, Charlie finds himself forging new friendships, experiencing first love and having the courage to do things a wallflower would never do.
DVD and Blu-ray special features include deleted scenes with optional audio commentary, dailies, audio commentaries with screenwriter/director Stephen Chbosky and cast and “Best Summer Ever” featurette.
