Featured pets for adoption - Saturday, October 8

They are all ages, sizes, colors and breeds. Some of them are the cats and dogs that have waited a bit longer to find a new home because they are older or different and others just need an extra spotlight to find a home. Each Saturday we’ll feature pets at various shelters and rescues that are looking for a home.

Here are this week’s featured pets that we are spotlighting in hopes that someone new will read their story and consider adding them to their home. Please cross-post, Tweet and pass along these animals and we’ll see if we can help one or more of them find a home.

Heartland Animal Shelter

Double the love during Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month! Franco and Gracee were abandoned at the animal hospital next door to Heartland and are now looking for a home together. They are such a great team – Franco loves to sit next to you and Gracee is quite the lap dog. Franco is around nine-years-old and is a West Highland Terrier/Scottish Terrier mix while Gracee is around four and is a Chihuahua mix.

Sprite is quite the charmer and is a definite volunteer favorite at Heartland. She is a petite tortoiseshell cat around  1 1/2 years old who is fun, easy-going and just loves attention (and lap time). She’s now one of the resident office cats and does a lot to help out with the day-to-day activities – bird watching, helping with office work, playing with string toys. Sprite is considered a special needs cat because she has a bowel disorder and needs to have her diet monitored so she doesn’t get constipated. She is active, playful and loves kids and other cats and seems to not mind dogs. She just needs to be monitored so she doesn’t eat anyone’s food. Sprite has been adopted!

Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary

Gavin is a fun-loving, playful and active Australian Shepherd pup that will need a special home because he’s deaf and also has vision issues. He’ll need a fence in his forever home for his safety since he can’t hear to be called or if another animal is approaching. Gavin has done very well walking on a leash and has been known to chew on things when he’s not being watched. He’s done well with other dogs and cats – although he does love to wrestle. Although he doesn’t live with children, Gavin has done well around them.

Tree House Humane Society

Gentle Ben is an 8-year-old brown and white tabby kitty who is a sweet, docile and friendly boy. He gets along well with other cats and has a great personality. Gentle Ben is diabetic, which is easily controlled with two injections of insulin each day. This great cat has been waiting awhile for a special new home.

Adopt-A-Pet

Dobie is a three-year-old Doberman mix who loves belly rubs and has a wonderful playful spirit. He’s a big dog at 72 pounds and loves to be around people, but is crate trained. While he needs leash training, he’s done well learning other commands. He would love to have a big area to romp and due to his size would do better in a home without small children. Dobie is a super sweet, loving and loyal dog. Though a good dog, because of his size and breed, training classes are mandatory.
