For the fourth consecutive year, Best Friends Animal Society is sponsoring “Back in Black” – a nationwide campaign dedicated to increasing awareness and adoptions of black cats and dogs. This year’s campaign will run throughout the month of May. Click here to read more about this adoption campaign.
Good Mews Animal Foundation in metro Atlanta is one of the Best Friends’ No More Homeless Pets Network Partners that is participating in the “Back in Black” adoption promotion. Throughout the month of May you can adopt a black cat or a black and white cat for only $50. This a less than half of the regular $125 adoption fee and you will receive a goodie bag along with your new kitty.
Francois is one of the many Good Mews cats available for adoption for a reduced fee during May and he recently posted a special message on the Good Mews Facebook page:
Hello . . . my name is Francois. Because I am part of the Back in Black special, I have a reduced adoption fee of $50. This special has been a big success: so far 12 black and black/white kitties have found good homes. I am wondering if I will be just as lucky this weekend. I am a senior and very shy, but maybe someone will come in wanting a quiet kitty to join their family.
Oh yea - I also have a brother, Stephan, that has to go with me. He is orange. Stephan and I pretty much have opposite personalities. I am shy and sometimes hiss or swat if I don’t want to be bothered. But it is an act. Once I am in a quiet home and start to feel safe, I will lighten up. I am active for my age, however I am only 13! That is not old. But I do like to run. Last Saturday I kept running back and forth through the shelter. It was fun. Everyone was laughing at me because my belly was flopping around! Hahahaha. So Stephan is more outgoing. All the human ladies love him. They are always hugging and kissing on him: gross. He says if I let the ladies hug on me, I would like it. Hmm . . . don’t know . . . maybe.
We had a home once but our family abandoned us and left us in a carrier on a chilly night. It was freaky, but someone found us and brought us to Good Mews. We are thankful, but would really prefer to have a nice home. If you are thinking about adopting two older cats, one shy and one outgoing, will you consider us?

Good Mews is a cage-free, no-kill cat shelter offering an alternative to traditional animal shelters in the Metro Atlanta area. They provide a safe haven for homeless, abused, or abandoned cats until they can be placed in permanent, loving homes. Since 1988, Good Mews has placed over 7,000 cats in forever homes. The shelter receives no government support and relies solely on donations of time, services, goods and money from its many supporters and local businesses. Good Mews is home to approximately 100 residents on any given day – most of whom reside at the Shelter in Marietta, with some cats residing in foster homes.
