For the fourth consecutive year, Best Friends Animal Society is sponsoring “Back in Black” – a nationwide campaign dedicated to increasing awareness and adoptions of black cats and dogs. This year’s campaign will run throughout the month of May. Click here to read more about this adoption campaign.
Good Mews Animal Foundation in metro Atlanta is one of the Best Friends’ No More Homeless Pets Network Partners that is participating in the “Back in Black” adoption promotion. Throughout the month of May you can adopt a black cat or a black and white cat for only $50. This a less than half of the regular $125 adoption fee and you will receive a goodie bag along with your new kitty.
Puck is one of the many Good Mews cats available for adoption for a reduced fee during May and he recently posted a special message on the Good Mews Facebook page asking for a new home for himself and his sister Sochi:
Hullo . . . my name is Puck! I am about seven months old. I have a sister named Sochi and she is a tortie. We are looking for a home together. We came to Good Mews when we were little and we got adopted by a nice lady. But she wanted kitties that would snuggle on her and we just aren’t like that. We acted shy so she felt it was best to return us. We were sad, but now we are OK because we know someone else will adopt us. Until then, we will play with the other kitties at the shelter and let the staff and volunteers pet us.
I am not as shy as my sister. I love people and when you hold me, I will purr and snuggle against your neck. I am also real cute, huh? My sister, Sochi, is real cute too. But she is very shy. Sometimes she will hiss at people and I have to say “stop it!”, and then she will. But she still gets nervous around new people and new places. So when we go to our new home, our family will have to be real understanding and not get mad at Sochi if she hides or runs. I might hide or run at first too, but I am not as scared so I will be OK not long after I go home.
So will you consider giving us a nice home? I am part of the Back in Black adoption special so I have a reduced adoption fee of $50 and go home with a goody-bag. Sochi’s adoption fee will be $50 as well, because when someone adopts two cats, the second cat’s fee is always $50. And because I love my sister, I will share my goody-bag with her!

Good Mews is a cage-free, no-kill cat shelter offering an alternative to traditional animal shelters in the Metro Atlanta area. They provide a safe haven for homeless, abused, or abandoned cats until they can be placed in permanent, loving homes. Since 1988, Good Mews has placed over 7,000 cats in forever homes. The shelter receives no government support and relies solely on donations of time, services, goods and money from its many supporters and local businesses. Good Mews is home to approximately 100 residents on any given day – most of whom reside at the Shelter in Marietta, with some cats residing in foster homes.
