For the fourth consecutive year, Best Friends Animal Society is sponsoring “Back in Black” – a nationwide campaign dedicated to increasing awareness and adoptions of black cats and dogs. This year’s campaign will run throughout the month of May. Click here to read more about this adoption campaign.
Good Mews Animal Foundation in metro Atlanta is one of the Best Friends’ No More Homeless Pets Network Partners that is participating in the “Back in Black” adoption promotion. Throughout the month of May you can adopt a black cat or a black and white cat for only $50. This a less than half of the regular $125 adoption fee and you will receive a goodie bag along with your new kitty.
Mr. Hyde is one of the many Good Mews cats available for adoption for a reduced fee during May and hee recently posted a special message on the Good Mews Facebook page:
Hello, my name is Mr. Hyde. My life started off really scary, but because of Good Mews, I am now safe and happy.
When I was a kitten, I was living outside and a mean person was shooting at me and my siblings with a BB gun. It was horrible. When a volunteer heard about it, she saved us and we got to go to Good Mews. I eventually got adopted, but it really did not work out with that family, so I came back to the shelter.
I am happy here; I have lots of kitty friends and all the volunteers and staff love me. But even though I am happy, I would still like to have a home of my own. I would like to be a part of a family where everyone loves each other. I like to watch birds outside, so I would love to have my own window where I can lay and watch the wildlife. And because I love other cats (and they sure love me!), I would need to have a feline friend or two. I have a lot of friends here, so if you want to adopt me, I can tell you who I would like to go home with. But if you only want to adopt me, that is OK. I would just be happy to be picked. I am easy-going, so I am sure I will become fast friends with your existing cats.
I will tell you, I am a little shy when it comes to new situations. I have had so many changes in my life, so it takes me a little while to feel safe. But if you give me some time, I will be the perfect friend!
So how about coming to meet me this weekend? I am part of the Back in Black adoption special, supported by Best Friends Animal Society and I have a reduced adoption fee of $50!
Thanks to Hannah, at How About Pictures for taking my picture!

Good Mews is a cage-free, no-kill cat shelter offering an alternative to traditional animal shelters in the Metro Atlanta area. They provide a safe haven for homeless, abused, or abandoned cats until they can be placed in permanent, loving homes. Since 1988, Good Mews has placed over 7,000 cats in forever homes. The shelter receives no government support and relies solely on donations of time, services, goods and money from its many supporters and local businesses. Good Mews is home to approximately 100 residents on any given day – most of whom reside at the Shelter in Marietta, with some cats residing in foster homes.
