Fear of cancer 2

As hightlighted in “Fear of cancer 1” most people agree that the fear of cancer treatment is often greater than the fear of death. Cancer treatment is associated with excruciating pain and devastation to the body. This frightening image of cancer began nearly 4,000 years ago when priests acted as “doctors”to rid the body of cancer, which was believed to be caused by evil spirits.

According to Dr. Jack Ferber, author of The Underground Cancer Book, the “doctors” in those days used methods strikingly similar to the cancer treatment methods used today, namely surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. As cancer was blamed on demons, the treatment or “exorcism” of cancer took three forms: “1. Cutting evil demons out of victims’ bodies with knives; 2. Burning evil demons out of their bodies with hot pokers; 3. Poisoning evil demons with arsenic,”as explained by Dr. Ferber.

When cancer treatment from the dark ages resulted in pain and death blame was assigned to the devil not to the treatment. These days it seems like history is beginning to repeat. Cancer is still to blame for pain, suffering and death with few questions about the role of modern cancer treatment. Is surgery, chemotherapy and radiation the best cancer treatment for everyone?

Isn’t it possible that safer, more effective and less painful cancer treatments exist? Considering the number of people that lose their lives each year fighting cancer, maybe it’s time to pay closer attention to alternative therapies that are commonly used throughout Asia and other parts of the world. There are doctors and patients asserting the effectiveness of natural cancer treatments and many people have experienced ‘spontaneous’ remission using other methods.

We’ll explore Dr. Ferber’s views in upcoming Fear of cancer articles. Read more in the Fear of cancer 3 soon to be released.
