FC Kansas City scores their first win of the season

FC Kansas City Blues returned to Verizon Stadium in Kansas City, MO. on Wednesday, looking for their first win in the 2014 season. The Chicago Red Stars made their first road trip to Kansas City of the season. The Red Stars have only allowed one goal this season, which ties them for the best defense of the National Women’s Soccer League.

At 8:07, Amy Rodriguez scored the first score of the night with an assist by Jen Buczkowski. This is the third time this season that a goal was scored in the ninth minute. In the 40th minute, FC Kansas City drew a penalty against Chicago, giving Lauren Holiday a free kick. The kick was high and over the back of the goal. At the end of the first half, the score remained FC Kansas City 1 and the Chicago Red Stars 0.

FC Kansas City tied with Chicago in the first half for shots at six each. The Blues had three shots on goal compared to two by Chicago. Chicago had no corner shots in the first half and Kansas City had three. Chicago was called for five fouls and FC Kansas City had three in the first half.

In the 46th minute, Alyssa Mautz replaced Adriana Leon for Chicago. The 60th minute brought the first substitutions with Merritt Mathias going in for Frances Silva. Liz Bogus replaced Lauren Holiday for Kansas City in the 61st minute. Substitution for Chicago in the 76th minute, Jaqueline Santacaterina replaced Julianne Sitch. Morgan Marlborough replaced Erika Tymrak who had been knocked to the ground. The 82nd minute brought one more substitution for Chicago with Haley Brock replacing Michelle Wenino.

In the 83rd minute FC Kansas City had made a 11 shots compared to the eight shots by Chicago. Four minutes of stoppage time was added to the end of the game. Kansas City continued aggressive defense to hold the score to 1-0, securing their first win of the season.
