FC Kansas City remains undefeated at home

FC Kansas City continued their domination at home when they played Sky Blue FC on Sunday July 27 at the Verizon Wireless Field at Durwood Stadium in Kansas City. Kansas City stands at 10-5-4 compared to 4-7-7 of the seventh place Sky Blue. Kansas City leads the all-time series 2-1-2 and this season 1-0-1. FC Kansas City has only allowed six goals at home this season and remains undefeated at Durwood Stadium. In the last meeting of the two teams Lauren Holiday’s goal from the corner made Sports Center’s Top Ten Plays at number three.

Katrina Gorry had an opportunity in the second minute for FC Kansas City, but left a low kick left of the Sky Blue goal. A second shot on goal came in the eighth minutes with Erika Tymrak from in front of the goal. Jillian Loyden was able to drop to her knees and catch the ball to deny Kansas City the score. In the 13th minute Loyden made a tremendous save as Gorry took another shot on goal. Amy Rodriquez in the 16th minute took a shot on goal, which Loyden was able to block. Tymrak in the 25th minute had a second strong attempt to goal that Loyden pushed into the top bar. The ball bounced away from the inside of the goal.

The first goal of the game came in the 34th minute when Holiday sidestepped sending the ball to Rodriquez who sends the ball home. The goal gives Rodriquez 11 for the season and Holiday’s sixth assist for the season. At the end of the first half, FC Kansas City took a 1-0 lead to the locker room.

In the first half, FC Kansas City had eight shots compared to two by Sky Blue and they led Sky Blue on shots on goal with five and zero for the visiting team. Sky Blue had four saves and Kansas City had three fouls and Sky Blue two.

The beginning of the second half began with Fc Kansas City sending Frances Silva to the field to replace Sarah Hagan. The 58th minute brought a shot on goal from Sky Blue that hit the right goal post, causing it go wide. The 67th minute brought a substitution for Sky Blue when Nanase Kiryu replaced Maya Hayes on the field. In the 69th minute Sky Blue was issued a yellow card when Caitlin Foord knocked Tymrak to the ground.

The second goal for Kansas City came in the 70th minute when Silva passed the ball to Holiday who was able to knock it in for the 2-0 lead. The score was the first assist of the season for Silva who has two goals. Kansas City made a second substitution in the 74th minute with Liz Bogus replacing Tymrak.

The 77th minute brought the final substitution by Kansas City as Morgan Marlborough replaced Amy Rodriquez. Sky Blue FC used a second substitution sending Monica Ocampo in for Ashley Nick. Sky Blue FC in the 87th minute cut the lead in half when Nadia Nadirn scored from the right side. After three minutes of added time, FC Kansas City was able to hold onto their 2-1 lead.
