After months of reporting on the effects of hard news stories of tragedies and a winter that gripped the nation for months, news anchors could really use a soft story to tell. Thankfully, Friday, April 4th is National Hug a News Anchor Day, and Fazoli's is celebrating the day by offering free hugs to news anchors, along with Italian food. Tony the Tomato, Fazoli's mascot, will be making the rounds once again to television stations across the country. Fazoli's will be bringing plenty of hugs and breadsticks to stations across America.
Viewers watching the hugs will also feel the love. Fazoli's will offer any guest who mentions that they watched their local news anchor get a hug, and purchases any of the restaurants new Ultimate Bowls, a free drink. For a limited time, Fazoli's will feature the Ultimate Spaghetti Bowl, a large helping of Spaghetti Marinara with Bacon, sliced Italian Sausage, and Italian Meatballs; and the Ultimate Fettuccine Bowl, a large portion of Fettuccine Alfredo topped with roasted Chicken and Bacon, Broccoli, fresh Mushrooms, and shredded Asiago and Fontina cheeses.
Jon Quinn, Fazoli's Vice President of Marketing, is glad Fazoli's can promote a story everyone can get their arms around. "This is our third year at honoring new anchors across the country," said Quinn. "It's become somewhat of a signature activity for us. And with all the bad news out there, we believe news anchors can use at least one good one to report."
Founded in Lexington, Ky. in 1988, Fazoli's was acquired by Sun Capital Partners in 2006.
