Favorite Horse Quotes

I recently ran across a message board post where horse-loving members shared some of their favorite quotes about horses.  I found this very enlightening, funny, and oh so true.  So naturally, I felt compelled to share some of these with my fellow horse-loving readers.  Here's a list of some really good ones:

  1. "There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man." (Sir Winston Churchil)

  2. "Dogs and cats have owners, horses have staff!" (Unknown)

  3. "Never kick a fresh turd on a hot day." (Harry S. Truman)

  4. "Never approach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear or a fool from any direction." (Cowboy saying )

  5. "God forbid that I should go to any heaven in which there are no horses."  (R.B. Cunninghame-Graham in a letter to President Theodore Roosevelt)

  6. "Truth is, I help horses with people problems."Tom Booker (The Horse Whisperer)

  7. "Are there horses in heaven? A horsewoman/man knows heaven resides within the horse!" (Katelyn Kent 2009)

  8. “You cannot remain unmoved by the gentleness and conformation of a well-bred and well-trained horse – more than a thousand pounds of big-boned well-muscled animal, slick of coat and sweet of smell. Obedient and mannerly, and yet forever a menace with its innocent power and ineradicable inclination to seek refuge in flight, and always a burden with its need to be fed, wormed , and shod, with its liability to cuts and infections, to laming and heaves. But when it greets you with a nicker, nuzzles your chest, and regards you with a large and liquid eye, the question of where you want to be and what you want to do has been answered.” (Albert Borgmann, Crossing the Postmodern Divide, 1992 )

  9. "Ask often, expect little or nothing and reward generously." (Chuck Grant)

  10. "When I bestride him, I soar, I am a hawk: he trots the air; the earth sings when he touches it; the basest horn of his hoof is more musical than the pipe of Hermes. " (William Shakespeare, Henry V)
