Faux goodness sakes, it's one step forward and two "bunny hops" back for animal rights advocates. A fashion accessory released by H. Lorenzo was trimmed in rabbit fur. Not so unusual, you think? Then rethink - because it was a cat purse and there is no reason for any purse to be made of fur at all. The cat purse was a novel idea, shaped like the printed cat but the price was anything but novel -- a whopping $1085.00.
Even though there are whispers that it looks like a Dallas Dollar Store item that no self respecting bunny would volunteer to die for, not a penny appears to have been earmarked to save the homeless cats nor the bunny environment. There is no saving grace here. Keys can't feel the cold so the Easter bunny has a full right to feel insulted.
The strange fact that bunnies are being skinned to make an ugly cat purse is enough to make you ask what's next? Will a cat be killed to make a bunny purse? If it wasn't so out there, really, it might be almost creatively funny; instead, it's enough to make a cat lady cry and bunny enthusiasts hopping mad.
It seems like just yesterday that the Dallas flagship, Neiman Marcus store, was the object of an animal rights protest, an annual event usually organized by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). After some checking, we confirmed that Dallasites don't have to worry about this pricey handbag offered at any of the Neiman Marcus stores locally.
But what should we expect when none other than Oscar de LaRenta is selling headphones in collaboration with Dr. Dre with luxe silver fox fur - to keep your ears warm if you're running on a brisk day. Maybe these two design houses should team up so all of the frivolous use of fur is in one house - theirs, not mine, and hopefully, not yours either.
