Father throws toddler: Child pays ultimate price of parental dispute

Father throws toddler off 52-story and he jumps off right after. Does this sound beyond sickening for a father who was photographed not long ago with the boy's mother appearing to be the picture-perfect family? ABC News reported Dec. 23 that Dmitriv Kanarikov, 35, took his three-year-old son, Kirill, to the top of a Manhattan apartment building Sunday only to kill them both in a horrific murder-suicide.

The toddler's mother -- Svetlana Kanarikov -- expressed concern about her son's visits with his father. She reportedly "relented" after a Dec. 5 court appearance. Mr. Kanarikov picked his son up at a Manhattan police station at 10 a.m. Sunday. It was a location he and Mrs. Kanarikov agreed on for child visitation with Kirill.

"The father never did anything violent against the child before," Kanarikov said in her statement of the two previous visits."Both times, Kirill was happy after seeing his dad. Skype calls were also going well."

Just the fact that the father pushed the toddler off the building "throws" everyone. How could he possibly do such a thing to a child he seemed to have wholeheartedly loved? Dmitriv and Svetlana were married four years and separated in August. The cause of their separation was said to be a domestic violence incident. She moved out of their Brooklyn apartment and moved in with her family in New Jersey. Mr. Kanarikov was allegedly demanding the boy, the house, and their property.

"He said he would take the child away and I will 'shoot myself from grief,'" Mrs.Kanarikov aid. "This was his sick way to take Kirill away from me."

Before the father goes and throws the toddler off a tall apartment building on Manhattan's Upper West Side, he made family believe he was going to Grand Central Station.

Police officers responded to an emergency call about two people who jumped off a building near Columbus Circle and Lincoln Center. Mr. Kanarikov was found on the rooftop of one building and the boy on another. The father was pronounced dead at the scene and the toddler died later at the hospital. A witness told authorities the boy was wearing Christmas pajamas.

"Kirill was a very sweet, wonderful child, who was loved very much," his mother said. "He will forever live on in my heart."

People jumping to their death is one thing, but a father throws toddler off a high-rise building? How can someone even process such a horrific death?
