Father Gary Thomas, from Sacred Heart Parish Church in Saratoga is the inspiration behind Anthony Hopkins new movie The Rite which will be released on January 28, 2011. The Rite held its’ premiere tonight in Los Angeles. The Rite is a movie about a priest who becomes one of the few exorcists in the country. Sacred Heart Parish is a catholic church in Saratoga Ca., which is led by Father Gary Thomas who is Pastor. Father Thomas is one of the few exorcists in the United States and he has performed roughly four exorcisms, three of which are considered finished.

Father Gary Thomas is a Bay Area native who graduated from Serra High School in San Mateo, Ca. His journey to become an exorcist and actually perform the act of exorcism is the story which the new movie The Rite is actually based upon. Although the movie is “loosely based” on his life, many of the details are considered accurate in regards to exorcism.

The Rite is premiering tonight in Los Angeles and will arrive here in Silicon Valley theaters on January 28, 2011. Father Thomas attended the premiere tonight of The Rite with Anthony Hopkins as well as other members of the talent and production team behind The Rite.
