A father, and his two sons died while on the Ozark Trail in Missouri. Authorities found the dead body of 36-year-old David Decareaux when they arrived on the scene and his two sons Grant, 8, and 10-year-old Dominic were rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately they didn't survive. Police believe that these tragic deaths were the result of extremely cold weather, Kfor reported on Jan. 14.
According to police, the father and his two sons went hiking Saturday and later they received a call from the man's wife around 6 p.m. when they didn't return. A search and rescue mission was initiated but later was called off due to heavy flood waters on the trail. On Sunday, the search was resumed and shortly after authorities found the two boys clinging to their lives while the father laid dead next to them.
Boy Scouts of America, Lewis & Clark Council of Belleville had this to say about this tragic incident,
“We offer our heartfelt condolences to the Decareaux family and all the Scouts and Scouters in Pack 323 for the tragic loss this past weekend. David Decareaux was a den leader and Dominic (10) and Grant (8) were both Cub Scouts. As a Scouting family, we will keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”
