A baby boy was shot in the chest by his father in Nashville, Tenn. on March 13, 2013.
NBC reports that the 10-month-old boy died after his father, Larry Bass shot him with a semi-automatic handgun in a Nashville hotel.
WSMV-TV Channel 4 reports that police arrived at the hotel where the shooting took place within three minutes but could not resuscitate young Adam Bass.
The man's wife and two young children were in the room when the apparent accident happened on Thursday. The baby's mother, Jacquelin Bass, 28, and the couple's sons, aged 2 and 3, witnessed the shooting.
The Nashville Tennessean reports that the family began their stay at the Extended Stay America hotel near Nashville International Airport in late January.
Larry Bass was in Nashville to work on the construction of the Music City Center.
Police spokesman Don Aaron tells the Tennessean that the family was "very, very distraught over what's happened." He went on to say that the police department "does not believe this was an intentional act."
Adam Bass would have celebrated his first birthday on May 1, 2013.
