Father's Day Wines for the Beer-drinking Dad

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! If you are looking for the perfect wine to drink with your beer-drinking dad today or any day, you are in luck! I had the pleasure of interviewing Aimee Cronin, wine expert with DRYNC - the top wine app on the market to get her expert thoughts on what wines work best for beer-drinking dads, the special man in your life, or you! Check out the interview below:

1. For the dad who loves beer, what is the best choice of white or red wine? Is one more popular than the other?
There are a few variables at play here: what type of beer does dad like? Why does he like that style of beer? Meaning does he love the weight of his pilsners, the crisp clean finish,or both? If dad cannot (or will not) give a hint as to what lies behind his preferences, start looking at external factors: What is the weather like? Is this for simply enjoying on it's own or with food? For instance if dad likes pilsners because they are crisp and clean, but it is the dead of winter, and you are serving steak, it might be wiser to opt for a dry red like a Bordeaux. As long as the wines are bone dry, and somewhat savory - the beer drinker in your life will be happy.

2. If you are sitting down to a game with your dad, what is the best wine for game time food?
Love questions like this! Game time food tends to be rich and salty, and we need a wine that can cut right through those weighty factors. Cava or Prosecco would actually be perfect: the high acidity, lack of residual sugar and refreshing bubbles can cut through the heaviest and saltiest of foods.

3. What is the most popular wine for men in general?
In our experience, men tend to prefer dry and earthy reds, or really complex dry whites.

4. What great and unique wine gifts have you seen for Father's Day?
For dad's who are into learning more about wine, we love wine of the month clubs. No muss, no fuss or trying to find the "right" wine. For Dad's that already have an interest, or even a collection, fine stemware is always a nice option. We love Riedel and Spiegelau.

5. If you are grabbing a last minute bottle for dad, what should you get?
As a gift, we love Chateauneuf-du-Pape, or some other southern Rhone red, like a Vacqueyras. If dad is not a wine drinker, this is the perfect wine to have on hand for a dinner party. Additionally it is delicious now, but gets better with age (no need to rush). Plus the labels are always beautiful and stately - it even looks like a gift!

6. What is your favorite budget friendly wine for any occasion? Your go to wine?
We have a few: Barbera from the Piedmont, specifically Barbera d'Alba and Barbera d'Asti. These reds are vibrant, delicious and rarely break the bank. Spanish Rosado's are also steals in the summertime. For whites we love Vinho Verdes year round - crisp, clean and consistently delicious.

Cheers to Aimee and all the dad's out there on this very special day!
