Suffolk County Police are investigating an unfortunate accident that occurred in the quaint village of Port Jefferson on the north shore of Long Island. At approximately 2:40 P.M. a 911 call into Suffolk County Fire Rescue & Emergency Services (FRES) stated that a male had fallen off the dock west of the Port Jefferson-Bridgeport Ferry terminal. Port Jefferson Fire Department along with Port Jefferson Volunteer Ambulance Corps. & Suffolk County Police Department responded to the scene. Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau units in the area were also dispatched to the scene. Police said the man was with his family while strapped in his wheelchair, when suddenly the wheelchair started to move toward the edge of the dock. Emergency workers and police officers removed the man from the water in approximately 15 minutes. CPR was administered and the patient was transported to nearby St. Charles Hospital & Rehab Center in Port Jefferson. The 72-year old man was listed in critical condition as of Monday morning.
