Fated Retribution one of several new white cards from Wizards of the Coast's expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set "Born of the Gods." This rare instant can have a deadly impact on the battlefield and help you dig for vital answers or threats.
Fated Retribution - 4WWW
Destroy all creatures and planeswalkers.
If it's your turn, scry 2. (Look at the top two cards of your library, then put any number of them on the bottom of your library and the rest on top in any order.)
White has a long and varied history of board sweepers, from Alpha's Wrath of God to modern replacement Day of Judgment. Recent variants include Supreme Verdict and Terminus, however Fated Retribution does one one very important thing that none of the aforementioned spells can: Destroy annoying planeswalkers.
Just look at all the vulnerable planeswalkers currently running around in Standard that Fated Retribution can blow up:
- Ajani, Caller of the Pride
- Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver
- Chandra, Pyromaster
- Domri Rade
- Elspeth, Sun's Champion
- Garruk, Caller of Beasts
- Gideon, Champion of Justice
- Jace, Architect of Thought
- Jace, Memory Adept
- Kiora, the Crashing Wave
- Liliana of the Dark Realms
- Ral Zarek
- Vraska the Unseen
- Xenagos, the Reveler
With so many planeswalkers, there's a decent chance your opponent will have at least one. Even if they don't, the right control deck can still gain a significant amount of card advantage from wiping the battlefield clean of creatures.
While Fated Retribution has a large casting cost of seven, the ability to scry 2 on your turn helps makes this card into a fantastic late game spell. Because Fated Retribution is an instant, you'll be able to use it to deal with creatures that have haste. Just hope that you haven't already been overwhelmed by a horde of weenies before then.
How will you use Fated Retribution?
