Anthony Benigno of WWE.com has released the preview for this evening's episode of WWE RAW. Likely the most important development in regards to this evening is the addressing of the situation with WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Daniel Bryan.
Daniel Bryan underwent neck surgery last week which will reportedly keep him out of action for 2-3 months, a period which the WWE will be unlikely to go without a champion. Benigno notes that “The Authority promises to determine the fate of Bryan’s title” this evening, which would likely mean that Bryan will be stripped of the titles.
Bryan’s injury could not have come at a worse time for WWE creatively. Many of the top stars who have been sufficiently built to represent the company are currently engaged in storylines leading in to WWE’s Payback pay-per-view event. Established stars like John Cena, Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista are all currently engaged in feuds with up and coming talents, making a sudden title win something of a detriment to the stories that are progressing. As of this writing, there is arguably no talent on the roster who is capable of holding the title that is not otherwise engaged in a meaningful feud.
With WWE in an awkward situation both creatively and financially, it may be time for a brand new face to be elevated to the WWE titles for the surprise and buzz factor if for no other reason. While this may be a tremendous risk, as putting a belt on a star too soon has been detrimental to the careers of certain individuals in the past, it may also be the only viable option open to WWE at this point in time.
WWE RAW airs on the USA Network at 8/7c. Due to the show being taped in London, spoilers are already available here.
