One person is dead following a grinding, one vehicle accident scene on Interstate 95 in Bensalem Pa. The accident happened just after 9:00 a.m. today, Aug 16 as a minivan filled with people was traveling north on the interstate. Just after leaving the Philadelphia city limits, the minivan veered from the center lane to the guide rail.
It then struck the guide rail before flipping over at least one time. Multiple people were ejected from the vehicle and two people were trapped. By the time medics had a chance to access the patients, one was confirmed dead. Four others were transported to two separate hospitals, in very serious condition.
State Police do not know what caused this vehicle to crash. They closed about four miles of interstate for several hours as they investigated the scene. I-95 was closed between Woodhaven Rd and Academy Rd. The scene was spread over the north and south lanes. Traffic was pushed to the far right lane for a few hours, until the investigation was able to get started. Then, in order to complete the investigation, a total road closure was ordered.
Area surface streets were packed with vehicles trying to avoid the delay. The identities of those involved have not yet been made public.
