Fat Tuesday 2014 is less than 24 hours away, and St. Patrick's Day is two weeks from today. Where does the time go? If you are a fan of those delightfully high fat and calorie paczkis you don’t have to wait until Fat Tuesday to get your hands on some.

According to a Macomb Daily report on March 2, most bakeries are working overtime to make sure they put out enough paczkis to feed the masses. If you are not familiar with what a paczki is or why it is so in demand right now here is a brief breakdown.

A paczki is basically like a doughnut, but much higher in fat and stuffed with a flavor filled middle. From lemon, strawberry, bavarian cream, blueberry, custard, and apple – and that’s just naming a few, the paczki has become an American tradition, especially with Christians.

Followers of the Christian faith traditionally give up sweets or another vice they usually indulge in on a daily basis for Lent as a penance or sacrifice during the 40 day period. Fat Tuesday is the last day before Lent officially begins on Ash Wednesday, so many Christians who want to give up sugary snacks use paczkis as their last indulgence before Easter.

If you are ready to make Fat Tuesday an entire day to celebrate Small's Bar in Hamtramck is the place to be. About Detroit reports that Small's opens at 10 AM tomorrow morning and offers live music, Polish food and the now famous Paczki Bomb.

No matter how or where you celebrate Fat Tuesday, make sure you have a paczki or two!
