When traveling from specific airports, select passengers will no longer have to worry about wearing matching socks or wondering if their feet will stink when they take their shoes off for security.
Pre-check, an expedited check-in program now employed by 310,000 travelers at seven major airports, allows the passenger to enroll in a TSA run program which will be “part of a fundamental shift in how we approach aviation security.”
This program allows Pre-Check passengers to be screened before they arrive at the security checkpoint. This permits them to move through the checkpoint while retaining their shoes, belts, and viscous liquids in their carry-on bags, all while keeping that cozy jacket on and their laptop in its case.
Eligible users: Frequent flyers with Alaska, American, Delta, United, Airlines, and US Airways and members of Custom and Boarder Protection (CBP) programs such as Global Entry, SENTRI, and NEXUS Trusted Traveler are automatically eligible. If one does not meet the aforementioned requirements they can apply for one of CBP’s programs.
Pre-Check at Northern California airports: Pre-Check is currently available to American Airlines frequent flyers at the Los Angeles airport and will become available to eligible users at San Francisco International by the end of 2012.
Pre-Check is the product of an ever-evolving approach to airport security. TSA has navigated away from the one-size fits all method and shifted towards identifying travelers who pose the greatest risk by employing analytic information. So though Pre-Check is now instituted, airport security is still at its peak, incorporating random checks to maximize safety.
