Hey, dudes and dudettes, grab your checkered Vans and head on down to The El Rey Theatre to get free admission to a showing of “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.” Don’t have checkered Vans? That’s no big deal; it doesn’t cost much to see Jeff Spicoli on the big screen.
Admission and concession items are $2 on Tuesday, Sept. 24 and $3 on Thursday, Sept. 26. On Friday, Sept. 27, admission is $5, and concession items will be normal priced. “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” plays at 9 p.m. on all three of those days.
The doors will open 30 minutes prior to showtimes. All those who plan on attending must be 18 years of age or older unless accompanied by an adult.
As always, The El Rey Theatre will have hot dogs; popcorn; candy; soda; and other concession items available at the stand. Beer and wine will also be available to those 21 and older.
Based on the real-life adventures of Cameron Crowe, the film follows Stacy Hamilton (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and Mark Ratner (Brian Backer), two southern California high school students looking for love. They receive help from Linda Barrett (Phoebe Cates) and Mike Damone (Robert Romanus), two of their older classmates. The film’s central character is Jeff Spicoli (Sean Penn), a stoned surfer dude who is convinced that everyone is on dope.
The El Rey Theatre is located at 230 West 2nd Street in Chico.
