On Friday, January 3 The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Universal has decided what will happen to actor Paul Walker's character in the upcoming action film "Fast & Furious 7," just weeks after the film's release date was pushed back eight months. Walker died in a high speed car crash in California at the end of November, when less than half of the new film had been shot.
Walker's character, Brian O'Conner, is one of the main protagonists of the car racing turned heist film franchise and has appeared in all but one of the films. The production was halted after the actor's death and it was unclear of the film would still be made. However, a few weeks later Universal announced a new release date of April 10, 2015 for the film.
Fans expressed concern that the character would be killed off in the film, which would too closely resemble how the actor really died. After reviewing all of the footage already shot with Walker for the film, the studio has instead decided to retire the character and write him out of the franchise instead of killing him off. In order to accommodate the change, several scenes will be rewritten and shot.
Directed by James Wan, the film will star Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Jason Statham, Kurt Russell, Lucas Black, and Tony Jaa. The studio plans to continue the film franchise and the eighth and ninth films are already in the production process. Check out the official website for more information.
