I do believe that this generation has begun to emphasize on buying less, and choosing well. This is the way for our over-consuming generation to pare down what we essentially need. Especially in America, where the mentality seems to be, "More, More, More." We have all seen the commercial where the children sitting in the classroom emphasize this saying, "We want more, we want more." It seems as though everyone knows that more is better, somehow. In the age of fast fashion and knock-offs galore, it is quite simple to end up as an over trendy clone in a world that rewards excess in all forms.
However, this movement towards looking for more quality in the things that are purchased and really getting usage out of them gives me hope. Even if you have 20 pairs of jeans in all different styles, colors, and washes, you will still end up with that one pair that suits you best at the end of the day. Everyone has their favorite pair of jeans. Look for pieces that will last you years, and only try to purchase your favorite things. For more information, I highly suggest checking out Vivienne Westwood's movement against consumerism, and towards sustainability in fashion. Because fast fashion trends are a dime a dozen, but style is forever.
