Fashions to Look for in 2013 (Video)

I know we are only a few days in, but fashion never sleeps. Time to revisit the runway shows we saw a few months ago and get ready for spring. Top trends for 2013 are almost all approachable for everyday wear.

Black and White- Super timeless. Not your usual choices for spring, which generally brings images of florals and pastels. You can chanel your inner 1960's goddess and celebrate Mod.

Emerald Green- Pantone's color for 2013. I have already seen spring sneaking in light seafoamy emerald. Very soft in chiffon, a delicious color for a leather jacket or signature piece of jewelry.

Ruffles- Think soft and girly, which is always perfect with spring tones. Whether in a blouse, skirt or even scarf; while it's still cold.

Exposed Lingerie- This is a tough one, not typically office or even daytime appropriate. But take this trend to mean lace and exposed sleeves. Into night time, bodices and exposed mid sections. I leave you to your best judgement on this.

Stripes- It wouldn't be a spring season without some incorporation of sailor nod. Given that we are actually in the cruise/winter vacation season, this is when the stripes, navy usually comes in. But take this trend in partner with black and white for a graphic look.

Big Jewelry- One of my favorite trends! Bold necklaces, cuffs or earrings; I love them all. But rule of thumb for day. Put on your jewelry for the day and then take one piece off before you leave. *But just throw it in your purse for after work.

Ankle Strap Shoes- I know lots of people who steer clear of ankle straps, they think it accentuates large ankles. The trick is to 1. Find a pair that is actually slightly below the ankle, making the ankle appear smaller or 2. Have a very wide cuff, that isn't too fitted, to over accentuate the ankle area.

Iridescent Finishes- Channel your inner ballerina or mermaid! Whether light and ethereal or shimmer shiny, it's out there. I like to use these kind of details for accessories, a pop of color handbag, scarf or jacket. But I wouldn't fault you if found the pefect sequin or shiny leather skirt.

I know these are a lot of trends, but don't feel overwhelmed. Chose what you like and forget the rest if you want. The idea isn't to incorporate them all everyday. Maybe one day you wear a ruffled blouse, big necklace and striped pant. The next, a pencil skirt in emerald green, irdescent scarf and ankle shoes. As always the most important thing is to feel confident!
